- Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waterways on which we gather as Trinity. We recognise the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation and acknowledge their continuing connection to these lands. We pay our respects to their elders – past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that teaching and learning have been happening on these lands for thousands of years.
Cultural Safety of First Nations Students
At Trinity Grammar School we acknowledge and honour the rich cultural heritage of the First Nations people on whose traditional lands we reside. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and culturally safe environment that respects, celebrates, and uplifts the voices, histories, and contributions of First Nations students within our school community.
Our Commitment
- Cultural Safety: We recognise that cultural safety is integral to the well-being of First Nations students. We are dedicated to creating an educational environment that is free from discrimination, prejudice, and bias, ensuring that every student feels respected, valued, and safe.
- Cultural Awareness: We are committed to promoting cultural awareness and understanding among our students, staff, and the broader school community. This includes incorporating First Nations perspectives into our curriculum and providing ongoing cultural competency training for all staff.
- Collaboration and Engagement: We actively seek to engage with local First Nations communities, Elders, and leaders to build meaningful partnerships. By fostering open communication and collaboration, we aim to better understand the unique needs and aspirations of First Nations students and incorporate their voices into the decision-making processes within our school.
- Cultural Celebrations: We celebrate and recognise significant cultural events, ceremonies, and traditions of First Nations people. Through these celebrations, we aim to create an atmosphere of respect and appreciation for the diversity of cultures represented in our school.
Ongoing Improvement
We understand that cultural safety is an ongoing commitment that requires continuous reflection and improvement. We will regularly review and update our policies and practices to ensure they align with the principles of cultural safety and inclusivity.
As a learning institution, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where all students, including First Nations students, can thrive academically, culturally, and emotionally. Together, we strive to create a school community that embodies the principles of Reconciliation, respect, and unity.
This statement reflects our dedication to the cultural safety of First Nations students at Trinity Grammar School.
