The Class of 2024 attained a median ATAR of 89.85, a median Study Score of 36 and four highest-possible ATARs of 99.95.

Early this morning, the Class of 2024 woke to the news of their VCE results.

It is such an honour to be able to share in this moment with our young people and to celebrate the many paths that have led them here.

In an extraordinary result, our four Duces received the highest-possible ATAR of 99.95.

This year, our cohort attained a median ATAR of 89.85, a median Study Score of 36 and six perfect Study Scores across four subjects.

27 students (15%) achieved an ATAR of 99 or above, 50% received a 90 or above, and 74% received an 80 or above.

This spectrum of results is testament to our students’ commitment to become the best version of themselves. While they don’t tell the whole story of our young people, they do give a tangible snapshot of their extraordinary efforts during their time at Trinity Grammar School, Kew. That they achieved these results alongside so many other significant contributions to the life of the school is impressive. They will be remembered for their efforts on the sporting field, the stage, for their work in the service of others and for their achievements in the classroom.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the unwavering support and dedication of our staff, parent and community networks who have supported them along the way.

We will be working with all our students to ensure that, regardless of their results, their options are known and relevant.

The four Duces of Trinity Grammar School, Kew

Ren Hao Chan (ATAR of 99.95) 

A Trinity student since ELC, Ren Hao distinguished himself as an exceptional student during his time at the school, demonstrating a remarkable combination of academic excellence, leadership and cocurricular involvement.

His dedication to his studies is a reflection of his commitment to excellence and intellectual curiosity.

His academic talent was recognised in his consistently high grades, culminating in a perfect Study Score of 50 for English. 

Beyond his academic achievements, Ren was a highly respected leader within the school community, serving as Vice-Captain in his final year.

His leadership extended to organising collaborative Triton events with Ruyton, fostering connections and inclusivity among peers. As a valued member of the Mitre Annual Committee, Ren contributed creatively to the school’s flagship publication, showcasing his ability to balance diverse responsibilities. 

Ren’s contributions to the cultural life of the school were equally significant. A talented musician, he played an active role in the Strings and Symphony Orchestra, enhancing the school’s musical traditions. On stage, he captivated audiences with his major role as the Narrator in Cowen’s winning House Performing Arts Festival (HPAF) production. He was also a keen tennis and soccer player. 

Ren Hao leaves behind a legacy of leadership, creativity, and achievement, serving as a testament to the values of the school. 

Alexander Chieng  (ATAR of 99.95) 

Since his earliest day in the Trinity ELC, Alexander has been an exemplary member of our school community, embodying both academic excellence and a passion for diverse pursuits.

His dedication to his studies is evident in his consistently outstanding results, underpinned by his intellect and strong work ethic. Among his many academic accolades, Alexander was named Dux of Mathematics and Science.

He earned the School Prize for Specialist Mathematics this year, following his achievement of the Premier’s Prize for Music Repertoire Performance as a Year 11 student in 2023.  

Alexander’s talents extend far beyond the classroom. A gifted musician, he was awarded a Premier’s Prize for Music: Repertoire Performance in 2023 and had the honour of performing at the awards ceremony as well as the VCE Top Class concert. As this year’s Captain of Music he juggled multiple leadership roles, including Leader of Suzuki Strings, Concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra and Senior Strings, and Leader of the Rhythm Section for both the Belling Jazz Ensemble and Stage Band. A highlight of his musical journey was competing in Generations in Jazz, an experience he treasures deeply. 

Despite his demanding schedule, Alexander demonstrated exceptional versatility. He competed in senior debating as part of the DAV Division A grade team and found time to play soccer and table tennis. His academic achievements are equally impressive. In addition to achieving a perfect Study Score of 50 in Music, he scored a 49 in Mathematical Methods, both as a Year 11 student.  

Alexander’s contributions across academics, music, and extracurricular pursuits reflect a well-rounded, driven, and talented individual who has made an enduring impact on our school community. 

Jeff Dai  (ATAR of 99.95) 

Jeff Dai’s journey at Trinity began in Year 7 in 2019, and from the outset, he proved to be an exceptional student.

This year, Jeff’s academic prowess was recognized with the J D Levick Prize for Physics and the Prize for Music Repertoire Performance, and his commitment to excellence extended across all subjects, earning him Distinctions and several external accolades.

His overall academic prowess culminated in a perfect Study Score of 50 in English.  

Jeff took full advantage of the many competitions and activities offered by the school, and he was a regular participant in the Melbourne University Mathematics Competition, and Senior Science Olympiad, earning a Silver medal in 2023.

He has been awarded first class honours in the University of Melbourne Extension Physics program, and his dedication to science is further evidenced by his published research papers on electromagnetics, contributing valuable insights to the academic community. Notably, Jeff’s achievements reached an international stage when he was selected to represent Australia at the International Youth Physicists Tournament in Hungary and won a bronze medal, a testament to his outstanding capabilities in the field.  

Jeff’s contributions to music are equally impressive. As a music scholar for the past five years, he has led his section in both the Orchestra and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and his musical abilities have enriched the school’s performing arts programs.  

Jeff’s remarkable achievements across many fields highlight the positive influence he made while a student of Trinity Grammar School, Kew.  

Alex Gao  (ATAR of 99.95) 

In his time at school, Alex Gao has demonstrated remarkable versatility and talent across multiple areas.

A recipient of many Prizes and Distinctions for his academic achievements, he represented Trinity at the University of Melbourne School Maths Olympics Competition, showcasing his ability in this field.

Additionally, Alex participated in the Federation University Extension Maths program, further highlighting his dedication to academic excellence. 

As an accomplished sportsman, Alex competed extensively in swimming and competed as a member of the team in the Victorian All Schools Competition and was a member of the Firsts Volleyball team.

In badminton, Alex exhibited consistent excellence, competing in the Firsts, and his selection in the AGSV representative side was well-earned.  

Balancing his commitments across various sports and academics, Alex’s achievements underscore his exceptional capability and determination.
